Introduction
If your Onewheel XR rails are bent, damaged, or you’re just ready for new ones, use this guide to help you swap them out and get back to riding!
Important: This guide is only designed to outline the process for replacing stock Onewheel XR rails. If you are installing aftermarket rails, click the link at the top of this page.
For your safety, power off your Onewheel XR prior to disassembly. This reduces the risk of electrical malfunctions and/or damage during the replacement process.
Note: Altering or damaging any component of your Onewheel XR during disassembly/reassembly may render your existing warranty void or lead to refusal of non-warranty service at the discretion of Future Motion, Inc. (the creators of Onewheel).
Step 1 Remove the bottom bumper screws
- Remove all twelve (12) screws using a 1/8″ hex bit.
- Note: Keep screws organized as they are easy to mix up and/or lose.
Step 2 Remove the top footpad screws and footpads
- Remove all four (4) screws using a 1/8″ hex bit.
- Caution: For the front footpad sensor connector, turn (counter-clockwise) only the smaller part of the connector closest to the controller. Turning the entire body of the connector can damage it or your controller.
- Note: If you are unable to remove the footpad sensor connector using your fingers, you may use a Future Motion™ footpad connector wrench or a pair of long nose pliers (be gentle).
Step 3 Remove the top bumper screws and bumpers
- Remove all four (4) screws using a 1/8″ hex bit.
- To remove the front bumper, pull it toward the nose of the Onewheel™. DO NOT pull it straight down.
- You should also remove the cable compartment cover at this time.
Step 4 Remove the cable retaining clips
- Remove all three (3) screws using a #1 Phillips bit.
Step 5 Remove the hub bolts
- Remove two (2) hub bolts on one side of your Onewheel™ using a 1/4″ hex bit.
- Caution: DO NOT remove all four (4) hub bolts as this can put unnecessary stress on your motor cables during the rest of the rail replacement process.
Step 6 Remove the battery enclosure and controller retaining screws
- Remove the one (1) screw at the rear of the underside of the rail using a 1/8″ hex bit.
- Remove the one (1) screw at the front of the underside of the rail using a 1/8″ hex bit.
- Note: If you are removing these screws for the first time, they will be located under the warranty void stickers.
- WARNING: Removing these screws may render your warranty void at the discretion of Future Motion, Inc.
- Note: Make sure you are removing the screws from the same side of the Onewheel™ you removed the hub bolts from in Step 5.
Step 7 Remove the rail
- Caution: Be extremely careful not to damage the wiring harness or motor cable as you remove the rail.
Step 8 Remove the other rail
- Important: Before moving on to the other rail, make sure to reassemble the first side you started on.
- Repeat Steps 5-7 to remove the other rail.
